Mar Vista Family Center

For many years, Mar Vista Family Center has been working to build a youth center, to provide much needed facilities for the many preteens and teens served by MVFC. In late 2007, MVFC was awarded the prestigious Everychild Foundation grant of $1,000,000. Combined with the generous donations from other foundations and individuals, this grant has enabled MVFC’s dream of a safe space for the youth of the community to finally come true.

MVFC is proud to report that construction of the new Everychild Foundation Youth Center started on January 7, 2008 and is scheduled for completion in January, 2009. The new building, which will connect to the current MVFC building, will be a two-story structure with 11,500 sq. ft. of space. The Everychild Foundation Youth Center will contain classrooms, a computer lab, a multi-media room, a library, a fitness room, a game/recreation room, a multi-purpose space for dance and other performing arts, and a large multi-purpose room for community meetings and activities. Very importantly, special space will be allocated to new services to be provided by a mental health counselor, who will be available to help at-risk youth with issues related to gang pressure, broken homes, violence and other destructive outside influences.
