in partnership with Ballona Creek Renaissance and Mar Vista Family Center's By Youth For
Youth program, over one hundred native plant species were planted in a new garden adjacent
to Ballona Creek.

– Claudia Estevez, Leader of the MVFC By Youth For Youth Group and Youth
Representative to the MVFC Board of Directors, was named an ABC7 “Cool Kid
” for her leadership and hard work in the community. Claudia will
receive a scholarship, participate in an awards ceremony in the spring and will

CEO Lucia Diaz will receive an award in Sacramento –On March 9th Mar Vista Family Center will receive an award at an Early Learning conference hosted by Water Cooler and First 5 California in Sacramento. CEO Lucia Diaz will receive the award on behalf of the organization and will speak about MVFC’s effective Parent Engagement Program.
Mar Vista Family Center Parents Receive Their Early Childhood Certification from UCLA – Congratulations to Lorena Gonzalez, Viviana Flores, Ilaria Rodriguez and Elizabeth Cabrera who received their Basic Core Early Childhood Education Certificate from MVFC’s on-site UCLA Extension Program. These recipients are now able to work in the day care and preschool profession.
The Family Source Center Celebrates the Beginning of a Ten-Agency Collaboration – On January 25, 2010 MVFC celebrated the Grand Opening of a new collaboration of local community service agencies designed to help families on the West Side of L.A. with a host of coordinated services, including health care, legal aid, job referrals, and afterschool programming. Intake services will be based at MVFC, where MVFC will also provide youth programming and case management services.
