| Mar Vista Family Center’s (MVFC's) Community Program enables
local residents to develop life skills for personal growth, so
that they may contribute to safe and progressive home and
neighborhood environments. Partnership Education in Public Schools (PEPS) The PEPS Program was developed by MVFC to maintain parents’ involvement in their children’s education when the children enter either of the two elementary schools in the neighborhood. Parents receive specialized training to learn how to assist in the classroom. They also attend weekly workshops that address ways they can support, monitor and advocate for their child’s education and healthy development. Through PEPS workshops parents are trained in public speaking, organizational development, and leadership skills. Community-Led Activities MVFC adults, often with their children, participate in and lead activities such the annual Literacy Fair, Community Café (serving nutritious, free after-school meals to children), street clean-ups and community gardening, family festivals, and sports and exercise activities. Through MVFC’s community programs residents have learned the skills to organize themselves into a united voice when seeking assistance from state and local government for issues concerning their neighborhoods and their safety. 5075 South Slauson Avenue ● Culver City, CA 90230 (310) 390-9607 phone ● (310) 390-4888 fax Lucía Díaz, Chief Executive Officer ● ldiaz@marvistafc.org |
